An Adaptive Method for Simulation of Delamination in Composite Materials
Rafael Advanced Defense Systems LTD
The use of composite materials in engineering applications requiring peak performance and superior reliability is growing rapidly. Failure of these materials is often characterized by the onset and progression of distinct damage mechanisms that interact with each other and yield a complex material behavior during loading, which poses a serious challenge when attempting to numerically simulate their behavior.
During this seminar, the major failure mechanisms of composites will be described, followed by a description of the challenges of simulating these failure modes in large scale structures. Efficient cutting-edge numerical technologies aimed to allow damage propagation simulation in composites will be presented, followed by static and dynamic example problems. The seminar would also describe some of the latest research activities performed in Rafael related to this field, with the clear vision of collaborating with the Technion in the exciting field of composite materials research.
The talk will be given in either Hebrew or English, based on attendance
