SUMMARY:A look into space
DESCRIPTION:Lecturer:Aviv Kanelbaum\n Faculty:Space Group\n Institute:Israe
 l Aerospace Industries\n Location:Classroom 165\, ground floor\, Library\,
Aerospace Eng.\n Zoom: \n Abstract: \n Details: \n What is space and why
do we want to go there? What are satellites and space- crafts and how do t
hey work?\nSpace environment is much different than the environment found
on Earth\, these differences\, together with the fact that it is nearly im
possible to fix satellites in orbit nor to bring them back to earth poses
strict constraints on the product's design\, manufacture\, assembly and te
sts. On top of all these\, design must take into account the high price (u
p to 100K$ per Kg) and harsh environmental conditions of the launch scenar
io.\nA small number of Israeli based agents builds these wonderful machine
s called satellites (including the Technion)\, IAI's MBT Space is the lead
ing place in Israel for building satellites both for low earth orbits and
for Geo-Synchronic orbits.\nIn order to prove the ability of the space cra
ft to withstand the environmental conditions mentioned above\, space produ
cts use a set of very unique facilities such as vacuum chambers\, acoustic
chambers\, shakers and more.\nA review of the past\, present and future s
atellites will be given together with the specific tests these space craft
s must undergo before launch.\nThe main historic factors that pushed Israe
l into space and the difficulties present in launching a satellite into or
bit from Israel will be presented.\nA short overview of the worldwide spac
e status\, civil and military\, in the present and in the future\, will be
given.\nIn conclusion\, several problems and their solutions using acade
mic theories will be presented and how aerospace students can be integrate
 d in the space industry.
