SUMMARY:Colloquium: A Talk about Heat and Mass Transfer Phenomena in the Fr
 ee-and Near-Free-Molecular Flow Regimes
DESCRIPTION:Lecturer:Assoc. Prof. Avshalom Manela\n Faculty:The Stephen B.
Klein Faculty of Aerospace Engineering\n Institute:Technion – Israel Ins
titute of Technology\n Location:Auditorium 235\, The Faculty of Aerospace
 Engineering\, Technion\n Zoom: https://technion.zoom.us/j/93549691766\n Ab
stract: \nYou are cordially invited to attend the Second Aerospace Enginee
ring Colloquium!\n\nThe Stephen B. Klein Faculty of Aerospace Engineering
Colloquium series is a prime stage to spotlight the faculty researchers an
d the most up-to-date scientific work our faculty members conduct. On our
second Colloquium\, Assoc. Prof. Avshalom Manela will speak at the Aerospa
ce Engineering Colloquium about Heat and Mass Transfer Phenomena in the Fr
 ee-and Near-Free-Molecular Flow Regimes.\nThe analysis of non-continuum ga
s flows\, modeled in the framework of gas kinetic theory and associated Bo
ltzmann equation\, is a challenging task that commonly requires heavy-load
numerical computations. Yet\, seeking more mathematical and physical insi
ght\, rigorous investigations are much desirable. To this end\, the free-
and near-free-molecular flow regimes\, characterized by high rarefaction r
ates\, are relatively convenient to handle. This talk will present some re
cent work on this topic\, including problems in acoustics\, microchannel m
ass transfer\, and flow detachment. For each problem\, analytical predicti
ons will be presented\, accompanied by numerical calculations for validati
 on.\n Details: \n
