SUMMARY:Compressible flow investigations at tri-sonic speeds: a research su
mmary of a few selected experiments
DESCRIPTION:Lecturer:SK Krathick\n Faculty:Department of Aerospace Engineer
 ing\n Institute:Technion – Israel Institute of Technology\n Location:Cla
 ssroom 165\, ground floor\, Library\, Aerospace Eng. & https://technion.zo
 om.us/j/94882385466\n Zoom: \n Abstract: \n Details: \n Investigations of
internal and external flow at high speeds have paramount importance in arr
iving at a sustainable propulsion and effective aerodynamics for supersoni
c/hypersonic transit. Mixing gaseous fuel and air mixture at a higher velo
city is difficult to predict and model\, owing to the complicated non-line
ar process involved in scalar mixing. Similarly\, fluctuations propagating
upstream due to combustor back pressure variations in a hypersonic inlet
could be violent and render the shock systems to remain in a self-sustaine
d oscillating state under certain operating conditions. In the present tal
k\, representative cases of internal and external flows at tri-sonic speed
s from my research activities will be summarized. Firstly\, findings of mi
xing length in a supersonic confined jet will be examined through differen
t experiments. The tonal noise suppression using rear face modifications i
n the transonic cavity flow will be further discussed through both experim
ents and computations. Later\, shock-related unsteadiness arising from the
leading-edge separation in external flows at both supersonic and hyperson
ic Mach numbers will be elaborated through experimental and computational
 findings.
