SUMMARY:Cooperative and Networked Navigation
DESCRIPTION:Lecturer:Prof. Demoz Gebre-Egziabher\n Faculty:\n Institute:Uni
 versity of Minnesota\, Twin Cities Campus\, USA\n Location:Classroom 165\,
  ground floor\, Library\, Aerospace Eng.\n Zoom: \n Abstract: \n Details:
\n Cooperative or networked navigation are terms used to describe an appro
ach whereby members of a community (or network) exchange information to ge
nerate a navigation solution of higher quality than would have been possib
le if each had operated alone.  There are many application in aerospace w
here cooperative navigation holds the promise of enabling new capabilities
or enhancing existing ones.  Examples capability enhancements in the ope
ration of transport aircraft\, small UAVs and CubeSat on deep-space missio
ns are described.    As will be shown\, there are many technological and
algorithmic challenges that must be addressed before networked navigation
concepts become practical.  One of the algorithmic challenges had to do
with the design of suitable decentralized estimation algorithms.  Challen
ges associated with decentralized estimation are discussed and solutions t
o deal with them are proposed. Flight tests results from community of smal
l UAVs operating in a GNSS/GPS-denied environment is used to validate perf
 ormance of the proposed algorithms.
