SUMMARY:Development of Integrated Geometry Nozzles for Rocket Motors
DESCRIPTION:Lecturer:Lior Miller\n Faculty:Department of Aerospace Engineer
 ing\n Institute:Technion – Israel Institute of Technology\n Location:Cla
 ssroom 165\, ground floor\, Library\, Aerospace Eng.\n Zoom: \n Abstract:
\n Details: \n Solid-propellant rocket motors for tactical missiles requir
e low cost\, low maintenance level\, immediate availability and high perfo
rmance. Their main goal is to supply the required thrust and impulse to th
e missile to perform the mission they are designed to.\nAdvanced rocket mo
tor nozzles aspire to improve the rocket motor performance by variable mea
ns or to increase the system designer freedom\, using non-conventional geo
metries.\nAn investigation has been conducted\, experimentally and theoret
ically\, to study the effect of changing the rocket motor nozzle cross sec
tion from round to rectangular on its ballistics performance. In general\,
the experiments showed that the use of rectangular losses results in mino
r losses in performance in comparison to axisymmetric nozzles. An adequate
rectangular nozzle design can significantly reduce these losses.
