SUMMARY:Fluidic shaping of optical components - from eyeglasses to giant sp
 ace telescopes
DESCRIPTION:Lecturer:Prof. Moran Bercovici \n Faculty:Department of Mechani
 cal Engineering\n Institute:Technion – Israel Institute of Technology\n
 Location:Auditorium 235\, Second floor\, Aerospace Eng.\n Zoom: \n Abstrac
t: The lecture will focus on a novel method we developed\, in which surfac
e tension is leveraged to shape a volume of liquid into a useful optical c
omponent under microgravity conditions.  In the first part of the talk I
will show how we simulate microgravity conditions in the lab\, and the pot
ential applications of the technology on Earth.  In the second part I wil
l discuss our collaboration with NASA to create liquid-based giant space t
elescopes that overcome launch constraints. I will present our microgravit
y experiments in parabolic flights\, and the experiments we conducted on b
oard the International Space Station.\n\n Details: \n
