SUMMARY:Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulation Testbed of a Low-Cost Research Miss
 ile
DESCRIPTION:Lecturer:Guy Nevo\n Faculty:Department of Aerospace Engineering
 \n Institute:Technion – Israel Institute of Technology\n Location:https:
 //technion.zoom.us/j/97878357485?pwd=amVFOGpnZGJMM3l4N0gwakY4RWJoQT09\n Zo
om: \n Abstract: \n Details: \n A crucial part of the development of a com
plex system is its testing and validation. To support the design and valid
 ation process of a low-cost research missile\, a hardware-in-the-loop test
bed was created.\nThe testbed is an invaluable tool for studying the behav
ior of the missile in the lab in real-time and allows the testing and veri
fication of the avionics\, ensuring they are working as intended before th
e assembly and launching of the final product. Included in the list of har
dware is the flight control computer\, with its custom software and GNC al
gorithms\, a three-axis flight table to emulate the rotations of the missi
le as would be in-flight\, an inertial measurement unit (IMU) to measure t
hese rotations\, four servos to create fin deflections for steering the mi
ssile\, and optical encoders to measure these deflections. The hybrid simu
lation integrates these components with a mathematical model of the missil
e’s flight dynamics. The flight computer\, IMU\, and servos are also emu
lated in the simulation\, allowing us to test in an offline mode\, and to
compare the performance of a physical module with its theoretical counterp
art.\nThe design process of the testbed is described\, and results of both
hybrid and offline simulations are presented\, along with a comparison be
tween the two. Limitations of the testbed will be discussed\, and future a
dditions and improvements will be suggested.\nZoom Meeting
