SUMMARY:Harnessing Aerospace Technology for Power and Renewable Energy Prod
 uction
DESCRIPTION:Lecturer:Dr. Eldad Avital\n Faculty:School of Engineering and M
aterials Science\n Institute:Queen Mary University of London UK\n Location
 :Classroom 165\, ground floor\, Library\, Aerospace Eng.\n Zoom: \n Abstra
ct: \n Details: \n In this talk\, we will look at recent computational dev
elopments of fluid-structure interaction (FSI) simulations and aerodynamic
design for power production in aerospace and renewables. The approach of
coupling a turbulent flow solver as Large Eddy Simulation (LES) with a str
uctural dynamics solver will be described by joining the finite volume met
hod (FVM) with the combined finite element method-discrete element method
(FEM-DEM). The coupled FSI approach will be deployed to study power genera
tion from kinetic turbines of low speed aerodynamics to hydrogen fusion re
actors of high speed aerodynamics and non-linear acoustics.\nIn the second
part of the talk\, we will look at a recent aerodynamic blade design meth
od to delay stall and reduce tonal noise. Other passive control means as m
icro vortex generators and Gurney flaps will be discussed for turbomachine
ry and kinetic turbines applications. The talk will conclude with a short
discussion on supersonic jet noise and associated non-linear acoustics.
