SUMMARY:Intelligent Lightweight Aerospace Structures
DESCRIPTION:Lecturer:Professor Michele Meo\n Faculty:Department of Mechanic
 al Engineering\n Institute:University of Bath\n Location:https://technion.
 zoom.us/j/98188055502\n Zoom: \n Abstract: \n Details: \n A major ambition
of aerospace industries is to improve flight performance of commercial an
d military aircraft. One of the key activities towards this ambition is t
he development of high performance structural composite materials. Compos
ite materials are specifically of interest to aerospace applications b
ecause of their low weight and increase strength. The development and de
ployment of new structural composite technologies will have the greates
t impact on the reduction of weight and operational costs of aircraft com
pared with other technologies. The vulnerability however of composite
structures to localised\, dynamic\, sudden\, unexpected and impact loads
\, such as foreign object damage\, may result in unpredictable complex lo
calized damage and a loss of post-impact residual strength.\nIn order to
efficiently exploit composite materials\, there is a stringent need to
develop means to detect dynamic loadings  alongside improvement in sm
art sensing\, inspection and maintenance techniques in a timely and cost
efficient manner. This talk discuss novel Structural Health Monitoring a
nd Non-Destructive techniques based on non-linear acoustics methods\, Smar
t Materials (Shape memory alloys and graphene) and Structures\, and materi
al models and simulation methods for the design and manufacture intellige
nt aerospace composite structures under  impact loadings that could lead
to a significant reduction of weight\, design and certification cost.\nh
