SUMMARY:Israel Pollak Distinguished Lecture Series – Lecture 2
DESCRIPTION:Lecturer:Professor Rodolphe Sepulchre \n Faculty:Department of
Engineering\, Division of Information Engineering\, Control group\n Instit
 ute:Cambridge University\n Location:Auditorium 235 - Department of Aerospa
ce Engineering\n Zoom: \n Abstract: "To know or to predict? 70 years of Ho
dgkin-Huxley modelling in science and engineering"\n\nLove them or hate th
em\, the equations of Hodgkin and Huxley remain in 2022 a seemingly inesca
pable biophysical entry point to understanding the dynamical and rhythmic
nature of brain activity. For 70 years\, they have defined a unique encoun
ter point between physiology and circuit theory\, between science and engi
neering. This talk by a control theorist will tell the story of a personal
journey of working with this unique model. A journey from intractable non
linear differential equations to an enligthening mixed-feedback principle
unfold by two neurophysiologists once exposed to control engineering by th
 e necessity of war.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n\n Details: \n
