SUMMARY:Monitoring Natural Frequencies of Composite Structures as a Means t
 o Detect Defects
DESCRIPTION:Lecturer:Shahar Penias\n Faculty:Department of Aerospace Engine
 ering\n Institute:Technion – Israel Institute of Technology\n Location:C
 lassroom 165\, ground floor\, Library\, Aerospace Eng.\n Zoom: \n Abstract
: \n Details: \n Composite materials take a large part in the aerospace in
dustry\, and keep getting ever more dominant in air-borne structures. Ther
e is at least one field in which composite materials had not yet become as
advanced as metals\, and that is NDI. In this work we try to find a solut
ion for the problem of interlaminar delaminations in laminate composite ma
terials. The aim for this work is developing an on-site (In-situ (method t
o be used in order to detect and evaluate a delamination.\nThe method we h
ave chosen is a modal analysis of a beam\, in order to detect a change in
its natural frequencies\, which will indicate the presence of delamination
 s. In order to achieve this goal a large amount of numerical analysis alon
gside vibration experiments were performed. The end result is a "recipe" f
or detecting delaminations using a minimal amount of sensors and equipment
