SUMMARY:Study of the Physical Feasibility and Stability of the Chapman-Joug
et Points in a Homogeneous Combustible Mixture
DESCRIPTION:Lecturer:Irena Moshkovich Makarenko\n Faculty:Department of Aer
ospace Engineering\n Institute:Technion – Israel Institute of Technology
 \n Location:Classroom 165\, ground floor\, Library\, Aerospace Eng.\n Zoom
: \n Abstract: \n Details: \n The progress of a homogenous combustible mix
ture wave can occur within two discreet combustion regimes\, deflagration
and detonation. According to the literature\, it seems that there is no co
nsent about the numerical value of those velocities\, although the experim
ental conditions are the same. If we look at a burning wave (with SSSF con
ditions)\, in horizontal channel\, we will find that the velocity of the m
ixture that should enter the channel in order to keep the wave stable\, is
not univalent. The range of the conservation equations solutions is a col
lection of intersection points between the Raliegh and Hugoniot curves. Ac
cording to the classical literature\, Chapman-Jouget suggested that the ta
ngent point of those two curves determines the burning velocity in detonat
ion and deflagration conditions.\nThis study examines theoretically all of
those solutions\, using criteria such as thermodynamic stability\, mass a
nd heat transfer and entropy growth. Trying to give a physical explanation
to the great difference between the deflagration velocity determined by C
hapman-Jouget and the burning velocity that was found experimentally. The
mathematical solution proposed at this study\, is based on the Onsager the
ory\, which links between the entropy growths phenomena.
