Multi-disciplinary analysis and optimisation in aircraft design

The talk presents a multi-disciplinary analysis and optimisation framework applied to aircraft design as an effective approach to improving the overall aircraft performance. By modelling the interdependency among disciplines, the framework can include static and dynamic aeroelastic constraints and propagate uncertainty of key design parameters onto the constraints, providing the designer with an assessment of the reliability of the optimal solution. Further, the talk delves into the current effort to develop a high-fidelity aero-structural optimisation tool based on the Individual Discipline Feasible approach, which has potential benefits in implementation compared to a highly integrated monolithic approach.
