David Castaneda, a Master’s student at the faculty, received the award for the best student paper in Propulsion at the 2017 European Conference on Aerospace Sciences (EUCASS) that took place in Milan, Italy.
The paper is titled Experimental Investigation of the Hydrogen Peroxide – Solid Hydrocarbon Hypergolic Ignition and is co-authored by David Castaneda and Prof. Benny Natan.
Hypergolic ignition (upon contact) between the liquid oxidizer and the solid fuel is very important for hybrid rockets. It has an ignition delay time of 7 ms and allows extinguishment and re-ignition of the motor.
Congratulations to David and to Prof. Natan !
