The Technion-Israel Institute of Technology is ranked eighth in the world in aeronautical engineering – and among the 50 leading institutions in the world in three areas – according to data from the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) in advance of the complete 2017 Shanghai Ranking, to be published next month.
The annual Shanghai Ranking is considered to be the leading gauge of the world’s academic institutions. Preliminary data has been published about specific research areas, and the Technion made the Top 50 three times.
- 8th place in Aeronautical Engineering – ahead of renowned universities
- 37th place in Electrical Engineering
- 50th place in Automation and Control
“We are very excited and proud of our ranking in eighth place in the Shanghai Ranking, at the top of the world’s leading departments of aeronautical and aerospace engineering,” said Prof. Jacob Cohen, Dean of Technion’s Faculty of Aerospace Engineering. The Shanghai Ranking was launched in 2003 with the aim to clarify th e standing of Chinese universities in comparison to the world’ s top 500 universities. The rating is based on objective criteria and extensive data, including the number of Nobel laureates and winners of other prestigious awards, the number of scientific papers published in the leading journals Nature and Science, and performance in other areas relative to the size of the university. The most recent complete Shanghai Ranking was published on August 15, 2016, when the Technion placed 69th place worldwide, and first in Israel.
