Assoc. Professor Vadim Indelman receives the Uzi & Michal Halevy Award and Grant for Innovative Applied Engineering

06.06.2024

The Faculty of Aerospace Engineering is glad to congratulate Associate Professor Vadim Indelman on being awarded the 2024 Uzi & Michal Halevy Award for Innovation Applied Engineering prize for his innovative research on Multi-Robot Planning Under Uncertainty with Inconsistent Beliefs, conducted at the Autonomous Navigation and Perception Lab.

Autonomous decision-making in uncertain and partially observable domains is essential in numerous problems in robotics and AI. A key limiting assumption in existing multi-agent planning approaches is that the beliefs and models of different agents are consistent. This assumption is often unrealistic, particularly in practical scenarios, as it necessitates that all agents have access to the same data. This would require extensive and frequent data-sharing capabilities, which can be prohibitive. Importantly, when the beliefs and models of different agents are inconsistent, existing multi-agent decision-making approaches can lead to sub-optimal and potentially hazardous decisions. In their ongoing research, Assoc. Professor Indelman and members of his research group tackle this crucial gap and contribute a new paradigm for multi-agent action-consistent autonomous decision-making under uncertainty that explicitly accounts for inconsistent beliefs between the agents.
