Joint Purdue – Technion Course on Aero-Thermal Measurement Techniques

Joint Purdue – Technion Course on Aero-Thermal Measurement Techniques

17.03.2019

Between the 9th and 16th of March 2019, the Aerospace Engineering Faculty of Technion – IIT hosted a group of undergraduate students from Purdue University School of Mechanical Engineering. During the visit facilitated by Orna Hillman from the Technion International School, the students attended a 40-hour short course on aero-thermal measurement techniques, organized by Asst. Prof. Beni Cukurel (Technion – IIT) and Prof. Guillermo Paniagua (Purdue University). In the scope of the classwork, the students attended a series of lectures on a range of topics in measurement science and participated in a set of fundamental experiments conducted in Danziger Laboratories of Technion, managed by Prof. Eyal Zussman of Mechanical Engineering Faculty.

In addition to the academic activities, the students had an opportunity to see several important geographic and historical landmarks. During their stay in Haifa, the group also visited Kibutz Kishorit, Acre and Isfiya. These trips uncovered for them the multitude of cultures present in Israel. In following, after the completion of the course, the students traveled to Jerusalem, went to the Yad va-Shem Memorial and spent a day in Massada and the Dead Sea.

Considering that this is already the second time this activity has been organized, and based on the highly positive feedback of the participants and Purdue University as the sponsoring body, the vision is to continue holding similar events on a yearly basis. Utilizing this platform as a basis for future cooperation, the aim is to establish deep scientific ties between Technion and Purdue, in addition to exposing groups of American students to the remarkable qualities of Israel and its people.
