The Faculty of Aerospace Engineering at the Technion is thrilled to announce that Professor Emeritus Moti Karpel was selected to receive the 2025 AIAA Ashley Award for Aeroelasticity. The AIAA Ashley Award for Aeroelasticity recognizes outstanding contributions to the understanding and application of aeroelastic phenomena. This prestigious award is presented every four years.
Professor Karpel’s citation reads: “For outstanding contributions to structural dynamics, aeroelasticity, and aeroservoelasticity, including engineering leadership, research innovations, influential publications, development of industrial software, and mentoring of aerospace professionals”.
Professor Karpel received his BSc degree from Technion in 1971, his MSc from Tel Aviv University in 1975, and his PhD from Stanford University in 1980. He served as the head of the Dynamics and Loads division at Israel Aerospace Industries from 1980 to 1987. In 1988, he became a faculty member in the Aerospace Engineering department at Technion. He has authored 64 papers published in archived journals and has held the title of Professor Emeritus since 2016. Additionally, Professor Karpel is the founder and owner of Karpel Dynamic Consulting. He developed the ASE and GUST modules of the ZAERO aeroelastic software from 1999 to 2005 and has been working on the DynResp and DynLoad aeroelastic software packages since 2007.
