Established in 1954 The department of Aerospace Engineering at the Technion is the sole source of aerospace engineers in Israel. The faculty members conduct research and teach a wide range of aerospace disciplines. The Aerospace Research Center consists of different labs, among them:
- Aerodynamics (wind tunnels) Laboratory
- Aerospace Structures Laboratory
- Combustion and Rocket Propulsion Laboratory
- Turbo and Jet Engine Laboratory
- Flight Control Laboratory
During its nearly 70 years of academic achievements, the department is well known as a center of excellence in research. The high quality of the academic work performed by faculty members is reflected in their appointments to Israeli and international academies, election to governing bodies of professional associations, and memberships on editorial boards of scientific journals. Three faculty members have received the prestigious Israel Prize, the highest national award in the country. The prize honored their lifetime achievements in aerospace engineering research.
