The Bridge Between Optimization and Simulation: Applications to ATM

The talk will start with a brief overview of the optimization methods and machine learning (ML) algorithms, focusing on the objective function evaluation. The benefit obtained by connecting optimization and simulation will then be addressed. Such an optimization-simulation approach can be also improved by the mean of machine learning. Applications to air traffic management operations will then be presented, covering trajectory planning, automatic sector design, SID-STAR automatic design, emergency trajectory design, AMAN-SMAN-DMAN integration at CDG, and more.
