Flow separation is an important phenomenon to consider when designing airplane wings, stabilizers, and other fluid dynamics applications such as ground vehicles and internal diffuser flows. When unattended flow separation...
Micro Aerial Vehicles (MAV) require extremely lightweight propulsion systems. Whereas most current MAV use electric batteries as power sources, the presented work examines the possibility of using Phase-Change Materials (PCM)...
Scramjet engines are an effective hypersonic propulsion, as they breath air at hypersonic speeds and slow it down to supersonic speeds in the combustor, allowing for effective heat addition.  Liquid...
We study magnetomechanical instabilities in magnetoactive elastomer (MAE) composites undergoing finite strains in the presence of a magnetic field. In particular, we consider MAE composites with chain-like microstructure. We analyze...
The early phases of a new project are the optimal time to perform major changes in the design configuration. The cost of such changes at these stages is minimal while...
In this talk, we will look at recent computational developments of fluid-structure interaction (FSI) simulations and aerodynamic design for power production in aerospace and renewables. The approach of coupling a...
Transportation of external loads by helicopters is very common and is used for a fast transfer of large loads to places that are hardly accessible by other means. In these...
A major motivation for research in combustion science and technology is to reduce emissions from power plants, large scale industrial furnaces, automobiles, aircrafts, etc. Development of low emission gas turbines...
In recent years, flight vehicles are becoming progressively more elastic and as a result, aeroelastic phenomena are becoming more prominent. A gusty environment or a high-load maneuver can result in...
